Guwahati, July 29: In a passionate and combative speech lasting 103 minutes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended the government's response to the Pahalgam tragedy and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, while also criticizing the Congress party for its perceived lack of support.
Using a blend of shaayari and kavita, the Prime Minister not only justified the government's military and diplomatic strategies but also drew a stark contrast between his administration's decisive actions and the Congress's history of skepticism and undermining the Armed Forces.
Modi characterized the military operation as a pivotal moment in India's counter-terrorism strategy, asserting that India had the support of the global community, but not from the Opposition.
“No nation hindered India's response. Out of 193 countries, only three backed Pakistan. Yet, the Congress questioned our Army,” he stated, accusing the party of demoralizing the forces with its doubts and engaging in petty politics following the April 22 terror incident.
He emphasized that India's military response was intentional, measured, and publicly announced. “Our actions were not escalatory — and no global leader urged us to halt,” he recounted, mentioning a late-night call from the US Vice President on May 9, who warned of Pakistan's preparations for a significant counterstrike.
“I was in a meeting with the Army when he called. I returned the call later and said — if that’s what Pakistan desires, they will face consequences. Goli ka jawab gole se milega,” the Prime Minister recalled.
Opening the session with a call to action, Modi encouraged MPs to view the occasion not as a routine parliamentary session but as a national celebration — a “Vijay Utsav” honoring India's unity, the bravery of the armed forces, and the fulfillment of the Sindoor promise. “I’m here to present India’s viewpoint — and to reflect on those who refuse to acknowledge it,” he declared.
Taking jabs at what he termed the Congress’s “chichorapan,” Modi remarked that the Opposition was more focused on attacking him than supporting the nation. “Just three days after the Pahalgam tragedy, they claimed – Modi has failed, where is the 56-inch chest?” he recalled, labeling their actions as a betrayal of national spirit.
Here are five key highlights from the Prime Minister's address -
“In 22 minutes, we avenged April 22.”
Modi asserted that India's reaction to the Pahalgam tragedy was swift and impactful, delivering a significant blow to terror networks deep within Pakistan. He described Operation Sindoor as a historic milestone in India's military narrative, establishing a precedent for precise surgical strikes.
“No more nuclear blackmail”
In a bold statement, Modi claimed that India had for the first time exposed Pakistan’s nuclear threats as mere bluffs. By executing a large-scale, multi-faceted attack despite nuclear intimidation, India recalibrated the regional power dynamics and conveyed a clear message: deterrence is no longer based on restraint. “We have rendered Pakistan’s nuclear threats as false… There will be no more nuclear blackmail,” he asserted.
“Congress echoing Pakistan’s narrative”
The Prime Minister directed his criticism at the Congress, accusing them of promoting narratives that undermined the Army and echoed Pakistan’s propaganda. From demanding proof of strikes to questioning the timing of operations, he portrayed the Opposition as cynical observers of national security. “Some individuals began to accept Pakistan’s ideals instead of the Army’s details,” he remarked.
“Made in India missiles, made in India resolve”
Modi highlighted how India's indigenous defense technology played a crucial role in the success of Operation Sindoor. He noted that this was a testament to a decade of reforms in defense production, moving away from the Congress-era reliance on imports and scandals. “Drones and missiles devastated Pakistan… Youth in Tier 2 and 3 cities are driving defense startups,” he stated.
“Operation Sindoor is ongoing”
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister issued a warning - Operation Sindoor is still active as a strategic doctrine. He referred to it as the “Sindoor Spirit” — a combination of bravery, national pride, and an unwavering stance against terrorism, promising retaliatory actions on India’s terms. “This is not over… This is a notice to Pakistan. Each time they foster terror, India will respond.”
